keyboards keyboard: make Squeekboard the single path 2026-08-11 15:44:49 -04:00
README.md squeekboard: retired — stevia (patched for Hyprland) is the OSK now 2026-07-21 09:09:20 -04:00

squeekboard layouts (blueline) — RETIRED 2026-07-21

squeekboard is off the phone; the OSK is now stevia (patched to run under Hyprland — Pixel3Arch/pkgs/stevia, zphoc_device_state_v1 made optional). These layouts stay vendored as the reference for what the daily-driver keyboard should feel like (iOS view mirroring, 540-unit geometry); stevia layout work starts from the notes in these headers. gsettings input-sources is plain [('xkb', 'us')] now — the custom names below are squeekboard-only and stevia can't resolve them.

Vendored copies of the phone's last live layouts — the phone is not a repo; anything only in ~/.local/share/squeekboard/keyboards/ dies with a reflash.

  • keyboards/us+apple.yaml — iOS-style daily layout (2026-07-20). Design notes in the file header: iOS view mirroring, 540-unit row geometry, why there is no dismiss key (squeekboard 1.43 has no hide action; the Hyprland keysym workaround didn't hold and was dropped).
  • keyboards/us+hacker.yaml — prior daily driver, kept as the first gsettings source.
  • keyboards/terminal/us.yaml — terminal hint variant.

Deploy: copy keyboards/ to ~/.local/share/squeekboard/keyboards/ on the phone, then select via gsettings (both layouts stay registered):

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources sources \
  "[('xkb', 'us+hacker'), ('xkb', 'us+apple')]"

squeekboard picks up file changes live; no restart needed.
