Fimeg d64a6e9794 feat: WIP - Implement companion buddy system for Souveraine TUI
- Added src/ui/buddy.rs with CompanionSprite, BuddyState, and draw functions
- Integrated buddy into app.rs for welcome screen and dashboard
- Added agent selection via 'a' key on welcome screen
- Buddy shows agent name, mood, energy, health, and subconscious status
- WIP: Needs full agent alias creation/removal flow

Opus Implementation Guide: HTTP Server Core

Complete Source Code for SouveraineServer

Context: You have 8% usage. This guide gives you COMPLETE working code.
Goal: Implement the entire HTTP server foundation in one session.
Status: Copy-paste ready with adaptations for existing codebase.

Overview

You need to create the server layer that transforms Souveraine from a CLI tool into an HTTP server. This involves:

  1. Database layer (SQLite with sqlx)
  2. Agent management (CRUD with git-backed storage)
  3. Session management (conversations + SSE streaming)
  4. HTTP API (axum with Letta-compatible routes)
  5. Consciousness integration (wire N+1/N+25 into response path)

Step 1: Add Dependencies

File: Cargo.toml

Add these to [dependencies]:

# Database
sqlx = { version = "0.7", features = ["runtime-tokio-rustls", "sqlite", "migrate", "chrono", "json"] }

# HTTP Server (add features)
axum = { version = "0.7", features = ["ws", "json", "tokio"] }
tower-http = { version = "0.5", features = ["cors", "trace", "compression"] }
tokio-stream = "0.1"
futures = "0.3"

# Serialization
serde_json = "1.0"

# Time
chrono = { version = "0.4", features = ["serde"] }

# UUIDs
uuid = { version = "1.0", features = ["v4", "serde"] }

# Concurrent collections
dashmap = "5.0"

Step 2: Database Schema and Setup

File: src/server/db.rs (NEW)

use sqlx::{migrate::MigrateDatabase, sqlite::SqlitePoolOptions, Sqlite, SqlitePool};
use std::path::Path;

    }

        .max_connections(5)
        .connect(&db_url)

Step 9: Consciousness Engine (Wiring)

File: src/server/consciousness_engine.rs (NEW)

use crate::api::models::Message;
use crate::server::{AgentInventory, SessionManager};
use std::sync::Arc;

pub struct ConsciousnessEngine {
    agents: Arc<AgentInventory>,
    sessions: Arc<SessionManager>,
    // TODO: Add N+1, N+25, N+100 sub-engines when implemented
}

#[derive(Clone, Debug)]
pub enum ConsciousnessEvent {
    Surfacing { source: &'static str, content: String, priority: &'static str },
    Reflection { content: String },
    Archivist { synthesis: String, pressure: f32 },
}

impl ConsciousnessEngine {
    pub fn new(agents: Arc<AgentInventory>, sessions: Arc<SessionManager>) -> Self {

    ) -> anyhow::Result<Vec<ConsciousnessEvent>> {
        let mut events = Vec::new();

        // Calculate context pressure
        let pressure = self.calculate_pressure(&session.messages);
        session.context_pressure = pressure;

        // N+25 check

                pressure,
            });
        }

        // N+1 surfacing (placeholder)
        if response.contains("save") || response.contains("remember") {
            events.push(ConsciousnessEvent::Surfacing {

                content: "Commitment detected: verify completion".to_string(),
                priority: "low",
            });
        }

        Ok(events)
    }

    fn calculate_pressure(&self, messages: &[Message]) -> f32 {
        let tokens: usize = messages.iter()
            .map(|m| m.content.split_whitespace().count())
            .sum();

        let limit = 128000;
        (tokens as f32 / limit as f32).min(1.0)
    }
}

Step 10: CLI Integration

File: src/commands/server.rs (NEW)

use crate::core::config::Config;
use crate::server::SouveraineServer;
use clap::Args;

#[derive(Args)]
pub struct ServerArgs {
    #[arg(short, long, default_value = "127.0.0.1")]
    bind: String,

    #[arg(short, long, default_value = "8283")]
    port: u16,

    #[arg(short, long)]
    data_dir: Option<String>,
}

pub async fn run(args: ServerArgs, config: Config) -> anyhow::Result<()> {
    println!("Starting Souveraine server...");

    let server = SouveraineServer::new(config).await?;

    // Update config if CLI args provided
    {
        let mut server_config = server.config.write().await;
        server_config.bind = args.bind;
        server_config.port = args.port;
    }

    server.run().await?;

    Ok(())
}

Modify: src/main.rs

Add to CLI commands:

#[derive(Subcommand)]
pub enum Commands {
    // ... existing commands

    /// Start the Souveraine HTTP server
    Server(commands::server::ServerArgs),
}

// In main():
Commands::Server(args) => commands::server::run(args, config).await?,

Modify: src/commands/mod.rs

Add:

pub mod server;

Step 11: Test It

After implementation, verify:

# 1. Build
cargo build --release

# 2. Start server
./target/release/souveraine server
# Should print: "Souveraine server listening on http://127.0.0.1:8283"

# 3. Test health
curl http://localhost:8283/health
# Should return: "ok"

# 4. Create agent
curl -X POST http://localhost:8283/v1/agents \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name":"Test","llm_config":{"model":"test"}}'
# Should return agent JSON

# 5. List agents
curl http://localhost:8283/v1/agents
# Should return array of agents

# 6. Create conversation
curl -X POST http://localhost:8283/v1/conversations \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"agent_id":"{UUID_FROM_STEP_4}"}'

# 7. Stream messages (SSE)
curl -N -H "Accept: text/event-stream" \
  -X POST http://localhost:8283/v1/conversations/{ID}/messages \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Hello"}]}'
# Should stream events ending with ping

Summary

This gives Opus everything needed:

  • 10 files to create with complete working code
  • 3 files to modify (main.rs, commands/mod.rs, Cargo.toml)
  • Copy-paste ready implementations
  • Test plan included

The implementation prioritizes:

  1. Working HTTP server at localhost:8283
  2. Agent CRUD with SQLite + git
  3. Session management with SSE streaming
  4. Consciousness event integration
  5. OSS UI compatibility

With 8% Opus usage, focus on getting the server running and serving requests. N+1/N+25/N+100 consciousness can be wired in after the foundation works.
